Culture Groups!

Every Friday everyone from years 5 - 8 go to their culture groups to practice their traditional dances. There are four groups and they are Tonga, Samoa, Maori and Cook Island. I'm in the Tongan group.

We are doing two dances. One is called the Sipi Tau. The Sipi Tau is the rugby league haka for The Mate Maa Tonga Rugby League Team.
The other dance is Kailao. The Kailao is a warrior stick dance that tells what happened in World War II. My favorite dance is the Kailao because it shows how strong and fierce we are.

The Exam!

17/10/18 Wednesday

On Wednesday I flew down to Palmerston North to sit an exam. I was very nervous after seeing over 100 boys there.

The principal introduced himself to us and then took us to the gym. When we were in the gym we sat at a desk that had our name and school name on it. When everyone was seated the principal gave us instructions and advice for our test before we started.

The test was so long that it took nearly one hour for each test. There were four subjects, math, reading, reasoning and writing. I tried my hardest and got through a lot of the questions. I think the hardest subject was reasoning because there were some problems in there that I have not learnt yet but hoping to learn it at that school.

After the exam I waited outside for my uncle and then went home.

Tonga!

Image result for Tonga flag imageIn the Holidays I went to Tonga with my nana to visit her family. She wanted to visit her brother who passed away in 2017. In Tonga we slept over her sisters house with her sons and her daughters. I hung out with my cousin. He is 14 years old and I'm taller than him. We have a lot in common such as gaming and singing (well I like to listen to songs and him singing) and we also hang out with my uncles' son who is my nana's brothers' son. We liked to go to the shop to buy credit so we can buy data for the phone to watch YouTube videos and play games.

When my nana's family arrived we all went to the graveyard to visit her dead brother. After that we went back home and just talked and played games.

And that was what I did in Tonga.

Going Hunting With My Uncle!

In the holidays I went down to Palmerston North to stay with my uncle until the holidays finished. I was so excited to go. I went by car with my uncle's girlfriend's family. After the long drive we finally arrived at our destination .My nieces came out and they were so happy that we came.

My uncle asked me if I wanted to go bush hunting - to go kill a deer on the mountains. My reply was yes and I was so excited and nervous at the same time.

The next day me and my uncle got ready and were picked up by his boss and we traveled to somewhere far. When we got there,  my uncle and his boss grabbed their rifles. We walked up hills and down hills. We even went through bushes. We waited on a high mountain and I got to hold my uncle's gun. It was very cold and it seemed like it was about to snow.

We couldn't find a deer so we went back the way we came. It was a great experience.

😎Making An Egg Burger!😋

Today is the last day and we are making a egg burger! Everyone was so excited. Mrs Tuipulotu said it was better than a big mac from McDonald.

Like normal, we went inside to grab our aprons, put it on and then we went to go and wash our hands. Next we sat and waited at our kitchens for our instructions. Once we were given our instructions we grabbed the equipment required. After that Mrs Tuipulotu gave us our ingredients and then we started to cook. After that we cooked the buns in the oven until it was golden brown and then we take it out and then we butter the bottom bun and put the vegetables in it. After that on top of the vegetables we put mayo and then the egg and cheese. Then we put the other bun on top and TAA DAA!
That is how we made an egg burger!

Drawing! (Tech)

Today we arrived at Tamaki Collage and we are doing graphics. Graphics is drawing and things related to art. We were put into groups. One of the St.Pius students did a prayer for us to thank the lord/god for giving us this day.

Afterwards we start drawing our names in a graffiti or 3rd style. I picked lots of styles for different letters in my name. I did lots of graffiti letters because it looked so cool. It was so fun!

Buddy Reading With Room 1!

This term we have buddy reading everyday. Buddy reading is when you read to someone or they read to you.

We read with Room 1 and my buddy was Eve. The book we read was Where's Tim. When I was reading with Eve she had a very clear voice and she was pointing to the words so that she knows where she is reading. She was very good at trying to sound out the words she didn't know.

Afterwards I asked her questions that started with who, what, when, where, why, how did and other questions related to that.

After that we stopped and Mrs Pederson asked us what question we ask to our buddy. My question was where did she find Tim. It was fun reading with Room 1.

Making Nachos!(Technology)

Today we went to tech at Tamaki School. When we were there we were split into groups with the St Pius students. After that we put our apron on and washed our hands. Well we were sitting and waiting, Mrs Tuipulotu told us to get out our equipment. After that she gave us the ingredients to use for cooking.

After all that we put it on our plate and then Mrs Tuipulotu came and gave us the chips and cheese. When we were done we took a photo of it and then we ate it. It was so devious that I couldn't finish it all so I took it home.

Teko Teko!

Last week for art we had to draw a Teko Teko. A Teko Teko is a Maori word for a  carved human form (either the whole body or head), either freestanding or attached to the gable of a whare (house).

While we were drawing our teacher showed us an example from the year 8 from last year.  Minzin's drawing was by far the best. When we finished drawing it Mr Reid stapled it on the wall. On Friday I received a Principal's Award for the Teko Teko. I was so contented.
